Detail

Kneel and grip an ab wheel (or a barbell/dumbbells) under the shoulders. Brace the core hard and roll the wheel forward, letting the body extend toward the floor while the rectus-abdominis and transverse-abdominis fight to keep the spine from arching, then pull the wheel back by contracting the abs (and lats). The farther you roll out, the longer the lever and the greater the anti-extension demand. The lower back must stay neutral — never let it sag, which is the main injury risk.

Regress by limiting the rollout distance or rolling toward a wall as a stop; progress by rolling farther, then to a standing rollout (advanced). A dynamic complement to the static plank-progression and hollow-body-hold, and a spine-safer heavy-core option than weighted sit-ups (iliopsoas-lordosis-situp).
