Phosphocreatine (PC) is a phosphate group bound to a creatine molecule, stored within the muscle alongside ATP for immediate energy supply. When PC is broken down to creatine and inorganic phosphate (Pi), the resulting energy is used to recombine ADP and Pi back into ATP. The rebuilt ATP can then be broken down again to ADP + Pi, releasing energy for work such as muscle contraction.
