Agility-ladder drills involve moving the feet through the rungs of a flat ladder in set patterns (e.g., one-foot-per-box runs, two-feet-in-each, in-in-out-out (Ickey shuffle), lateral shuffles, hopscotch, crossover steps) as quickly and cleanly as possible. They develop foot speed, coordination, rhythm, body control, and dorsiflexion/ground-contact timing, and are widely used as a warm-up and movement-skill tool.
