How to do the Wall Handstand Hold

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Start in a push-up plank with the soles of your feet against the base of a wall.

  1. Walk your feet up the wall while walking your hands backward toward it, climbing into a belly-to-wall handstand with your body vertical.

  2. Hold a tight hollow-body line -- this is what keeps the handstand straight rather than banana-shaped.

  3. Walk back down under control to reverse out of the position.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the hips pike or the lower back arch instead of maintaining a tight, straight hollow line.

  • Rushing to get fully vertical before you're ready -- progress by walking closer to the wall gradually, not all at once.
