Kinesiology is the science of human movement. Biomechanics is the principles of mechanics as applied to exercise to determine how it should be done for maximum effectiveness and safety; it concerns factors such as momentum, force, levers, and angle of pull. Resistance exercise movements involve the combined interactions of applied kinesiology, biomechanics, and proper equipment design/usage. With good knowledge of these fields, it is possible to accurately identify: (a) muscle fiber orientation (arrangement), (b) primary muscles used in an exercise, (c) proper muscles used in an exercise, (d) proper angle of muscle pull/push, (e) effective, safe, and proper exercises, and (f) injuries associated with improper movements.
