Sustained aerobic exercise held at a constant, submaximal intensity for an extended block of time — the backbone method of cardiorespiratory training.
Continuous (steady-state) training means moving at one roughly unchanging intensity for the whole session, with no programmed work/rest swings. The metabolic demand is met predominantly by the aerobic-system, so the effort can be maintained for many minutes to hours depending on how hard the pace is.
The defining feature is a stable physiological "steady state": after a few minutes the oxygen uptake rises to match the energy cost of the activity and then plateaus, so heart rate, ventilation, and fuel use settle at a constant level. This is the opposite of interval training, where intensity deliberately oscillates above and below the steady state (see interval-training).

Because the intensity is constant, prescription is simple: pick an intensity zone (by heart rate, RPE, pace, or power), pick a duration, and hold it. Per ACSM and the major public-health guidelines, most weekly aerobic volume for general health is accumulated through moderate continuous training (see cardiorespiratory-guidelines and weekly-aerobic-volume).
