Detail

Two people with the same goal rarely get the same program. Individuality means the template is the starting point and these knobs tune it:

  • Assessment results → exercise selection and starting loads. Weaknesses found in testing (poor mobility, a strength imbalance, low aerobic base) become priorities; baselines anchor loads (see adjusting-by-assessment, baseline-assessment-battery).
  • Experience / training age → program complexity and progression rate. Novices get simple, linear, technique-first plans; advanced trainees get periodized variation and autoregulation.
  • Equipment & environment → exercise substitutions. No barbell → dumbbell/bodyweight equivalents; home/travel → minimal-equipment versions (see at-home-minimal-equipment-program).
  • Time available → volume per session, frequency, and split. Few short windows → full-body, supersets, or express templates; the split follows the available days.
  • Recovery capacity → volume, frequency, and deload cadence. Poor sleep/high stress/older age lowers tolerable volume and shortens the gap to a deload (see recovery-overview).
