Detail

Wall drills are acceleration-teaching drills performed leaning into a wall (or rail) so the body is fixed in the forward-lean "drive" position of early acceleration. With the arms braced on the wall and the body in a straight line from heel to head (about a 45° lean), the athlete drives one knee up (dorsiflexed foot) and the other into triple extension, then switches — rehearsing the positive shin angle, knee drive, and front-side mechanics of accelerating without having to balance or move.

Technique: brace on the wall, keep a straight rigid line from the support ankle through the hip to the head (no piking/breaking at the hips, no sagging back), drive the knee up so the thigh is parallel with the foot dorsiflexed, and finish the support leg in full extension. Progress from single-leg holds (one knee up, hold the position) → single exchanges (one fast switch) → continuous marches/runs against the wall.

They are a low-intensity, high-control way to teach posture and shin angle before doing free sprints or sled work, and are common in warm-ups and with novices.
