How to do the Wrist Squeeze

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Hold a hand gripper (spring-loaded or adjustable) in one hand, wrist in a neutral position, elbow relaxed at your side or slightly bent.

  1. Squeeze the handles together as hard as you can, closing the gripper fully if possible, and hold the squeeze briefly at full closure.

  2. Release under control rather than letting the spring snap back open.

  3. Switch hands and repeat -- train each side independently since grip strength is often uneven between hands.

Common mistakes

  • Using a lot of body swing/momentum to help close the gripper instead of a pure hand-and-forearm squeeze.

  • Letting the spring slam back open on release, which wastes the eccentric portion of the exercise and can be jarring on the fingers.
