How to do the Wrist Curl

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Seated, forearms resting on your thighs or a bench with your wrists just past your knees, a supinated (underhand, palms-up) grip on the bar, dumbbells, or cable handle.

  1. Let the bar roll down toward your fingers, then curl your wrists up to flex them as far as possible.

  2. Keep your forearms pinned to your thighs/bench throughout -- only your wrists move.

  3. Lower under control back to the stretched position.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the forearms lift off your thighs/bench to help move the weight, which brings the elbows into the movement instead of isolating the wrists.

  • Using a fast, bouncy tempo instead of a controlled flex-and-stretch through the full range.
