How to do the Reverse Curl

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Grip the bar with palms facing down (pronated/overhand), hands at shoulder-width or slightly wider.

  1. Curl the bar up while keeping your palms facing down the entire time -- don't let your wrists rotate toward a neutral or supinated grip.

  2. Keep your upper arms fixed at your sides.

  3. Lower under control to full arm extension.

Common mistakes

  • Using much lighter loads than a standard curl and then still swinging the body to compensate -- the pronated grip is inherently weaker at this lift, so drop the weight instead of cheating the rep.

  • Letting the wrists flex/extend during the lift instead of staying neutral.

How the knowledge graph models this movement

Each joint action, with the role and emphasis the graph assigns each muscle. These are qualitative anatomical labels, not measured muscle activation.

  • Elbow flexionprimary action

Brachioradialis (prime mover, high emphasis); Brachialis (synergist, high emphasis); Biceps brachii (synergist, low emphasis)
