Detail

The standing broad jump (standing long jump) measures horizontal lower-body power. It needs only a flat non-slip surface and a tape measure, making it a staple of combines and field testing.

Protocol: stand with toes behind a line, feet ~shoulder-width. Using an arm swing and counter-movement (dip), jump forward with a two-foot takeoff and land on both feet without falling backward. Measure from the takeoff line to the rearmost heel at landing. Best of 2–3 trials (cm/in).

Notes: a clean landing is required — distance is voided if the participant falls back or steps. It correlates with vertical jump and sprint performance as a general lower-body power marker. Compare to sport/sex norms or the athlete's own baseline; standardize footwear, surface, and arm swing for valid re-tests.
