Walk forward placing each foot heel-to-toe along a line — a dynamic-balance and gait drill central to fall-prevention programs.
Walk slowly in a straight line, placing the heel of the stepping foot directly in front of (and touching) the toes of the standing foot, so each step lands on a single line. Keep the trunk tall, brace lightly, arms ready to assist balance (or lightly trailing a wall/rail), and gaze toward a fixed point ahead rather than down at the feet. This combines a narrowed base with movement, making it a dynamic balance task (see dynamic-balance-drills) — a step up from the static tandem stance (exercise-tandem-stance).

Tandem (heel-to-toe) walking is one of the balance components of the Otago Exercise Programme (otago-exercise-programme) and a common gait-balance screening task.
