Stand with one foot directly in front of the other, heel touching toe, narrowing the base side-to-side — a gentle balance step between feet-together and single-leg, and a standard balance test.
Place one foot directly in front of the other so the heel of the front foot touches (or nearly touches) the toes of the back foot, both feet on a single line. This narrows the side-to-side base of support, increasing the balance challenge while keeping both feet on the ground. Stand tall, brace lightly, gaze fixed, and hold steadily.
