Detail

With increased stretch over a period of time, the fascial sheaths encasing the muscles may undergo a semi-permanent change in length. These sheaths include the epimysium, endomysium, and perimysium (the connective layers shown in muscle structure; see skeletal-muscle-structure). Additional tissues that adapt to the stretch are the tendons, ligaments, fascia, and scar tissue.

This is the second of the three adaptations listed under what-happens-when-you-stretch. Static stretching, held long enough, is the technique that permits this semi-permanent length change (static-stretching).
