An activity factor is a multiplier applied to BMR (see bmr-estimation) to estimate total daily energy expenditure (see tdee). The widely used scale:

TDEE = BMR × activity factor. Example: a BMR of 1,600 kcal at "moderately active" (1.55) ≈ 2,480 kcal/day.

The most common mistake is picking too high a level — many people overrate their activity, which can inflate the estimate by hundreds of calories and stall fat loss. When unsure, choose the lower bracket. Factors bundle both exercise and non-exercise movement (NEAT), so a desk worker who trains hard but is otherwise still may sit between brackets. Treat the result as a starting estimate and adjust to the 10–14 day weight trend (see calorie-targets).
