Training density = work ÷ time. Most simply, volume load (or tonnage) ÷ total working time. It captures how much you accomplished per minute, blending the rest-taken field with training-volume-load.

Density is a progression lever distinct from load and volume: holding sets, reps, and load constant while reducing rest raises density and increases metabolic and conditioning demand — a valid form of progressive-overload when adding weight isn't desirable (deload week, injury, plateau). It is also the core metric for time-capped formats (AMRAP, EMOM, circuits) where the goal is more work in a fixed window.
