The brachialis pulls on the ulna, which does not rotate, thus making it the only pure flexor of the joint (Ellison, 1991). Its function is flexion. A neutral-position hammer curl brings the brachialis and brachioradialis into play. It contracts (with the biceps brachii and brachioradialis) during elbow flexion, with the triceps reciprocally innervated to relax.
