A graded toolkit of unstable surfaces — from a mildly compliant foam pad to a tilting wobble board — each adding a known amount of instability to balance and core drills.
Balance tools create instability to challenge postural control (see unstable-surface-training). Roughly from least to most destabilizing:
Selection guidance: match tool instability to the trainee's competence, progress gradually, and provide nearby support. Heavy strength/power work should not be performed on these surfaces (see unstable-surface-training). Home substitutions: a folded towel/pillow for a balance pad; a couch cushion for foam (see home-gym).
