A padded bench — flat or angle-adjustable — that supports pressing, rows, step-ups, and dozens of dumbbell exercises; an adjustable one is among the most versatile home-gym buys.
A weight bench supports the torso for pressing and many seated/supported exercises.
Buying notes: check the weight rating (bench + lifter + load), pad firmness (too soft lets you sink and lose stability), pad gap at the hinge, and stability of the incline mechanism. A solid bench plus a power-rack, barbell, and plates is a complete strength setup (home-gym).
Technique note: on the bench press, a modest natural arch is normal, but excessive arching to shorten the press has safety implications (see bench-press-back-arch).
