Twisting the dumbbells to a supinated, pinkies-together position at lockout produces LESS pectoral contraction (EMG), not more — because the twist diverts force into humeral rotation, off the pec's actual line of pull.
Performing dumbbell presses and ending with a twist (supination) at the top of the movement — pinkies/little fingers rotated together — produces less pectoral contraction, per EMG, than pressing straight through without the twist.
This is consistent with the pec's own mechanics already established elsewhere in this graph: the pectoralis major's primary action is horizontal adduction (flexion) — drawing the arm from the side-horizontal position toward the front-horizontal position — with its clavicular and sternal fibers each pulling along their own fixed line (muscle-fiber-arrangement, pectoralis-major). Internal rotation of the humerus is a different joint action, produced by different muscles along a different line of pull. Adding a rotational twist mid-rep spends part of the contraction rotating the humerus rather than continuing the pec's own horizontal- adduction path — diverting force off the fiber direction that actually produces pec tension, rather than adding to it.
