A deload is a deliberate, temporary reduction in training stress, usually for about a week, to shed accumulated fatigue while preserving fitness. It's a recovery strategy bigger than a single rest day but short of a full layoff. The logic: hard training builds fatigue faster than it dissipates, so periodic backing-off lets adaptation catch up (recovery-physiology) and reduces overtraining/injury risk.
