How to do the Band Bicep Curl

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Stand on the middle of the band with feet shoulder-width apart, one handle in each hand, arms extended down.

  1. Curl your hands up toward your shoulders, keeping your upper arms fixed at your sides.

  2. Resistance increases toward the top of a band curl (opposite of a free-weight curl) -- expect the hardest part of the rep to be near full elbow flexion, not the bottom.

  3. Lower under control, resisting the band's pull back to full arm extension.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the band snap your arms back down instead of controlling the return -- that's where most of the real tension/benefit is.

  • Standing too narrow on the band, so tension is inconsistent between reps as your foot position shifts.
