How to do the Pec Deck

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Seated with your back against the pad, forearms/elbows against the machine's arm pads, a slight bend in your elbows.

  1. Squeeze the pads together in front of your chest, keeping that slight elbow bend fixed throughout -- a slightly bent elbow gives a stronger chest contraction than a straight arm.

  2. Return under control to a full stretch at the sides.

Common mistakes

  • Locking the elbows straight, which weakens the contraction instead of strengthening it.

  • Using momentum to slam the pads together instead of a controlled squeeze.
