How to do the Reverse Hyperextension

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Lie face-down on the bench with your hips at the edge, torso supported, legs hanging off the end holding the leg pad/strap.

  1. Swing your legs up by extending at the hips, squeezing your glutes and lower back at the top.

  2. Keep your spine's natural curve throughout rather than rounding or over-arching.

  3. Lower under control back to the start, letting the weight provide a stretch at the bottom.

Common mistakes

  • Using a big, momentum-driven swing instead of a controlled hip extension.

  • Rounding the lower back to add range instead of maintaining a neutral spinal curve.
