How to do the Tibialis Raise

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Stand with your back against a wall, heels a few inches out from the wall, weight on your heels.

  1. Lift the balls of your feet and toes up off the floor as high as you can (this is dorsiflexion -- the opposite motion of a calf raise), keeping your heels planted.

  2. Lower under control back to the floor.

Common mistakes

  • Rocking backward onto the heels excessively to gain range instead of driving the lift from the front of the ankle.

  • Doing the movement too fast to feel real fatigue in the shin (tibialis anterior).
