How to do the Band Lateral Walk

Cues reviewed by Kwabena Osei on

Setup

Band looped around your ankles or just above your knees, feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, hips pushed back into a slight athletic squat.

  1. Step sideways with control, keeping tension on the band throughout -- never letting your feet drift close enough for the band to go slack.

  2. Keep your torso upright and your toes pointing forward rather than turning out to make the step easier.

Common mistakes

  • Standing too upright with straight knees instead of maintaining the athletic squat position throughout the set.

  • Letting the band go slack between steps, which removes tension exactly when the working hip needs it most.
