  • Complex training (traditional sense): complete all sets of the heavy exercise, then all sets of the explosive exercise (sequential blocks). Some authors use "complex" loosely for any heavy-then-explosive pairing.
  • Contrast training: alternate within the same group — e.g., heavy back squat, rest, then jump squats or box jumps; repeat for several couplets. The contrast in load on alternating sets is the defining feature.
