Power training prioritizes movement velocity and quality over fatigue, so its acute variables differ from hypertrophy/endurance work:

  • Reps: low — about 1-6 per set (often ≤5), so every rep is fast and explosive. The set ends before velocity drops meaningfully.
  • Sets: typically ~3-6 per exercise.
  • Load: depends on the goal/zone — heavier for strength-speed (e.g., ~70-90% for Olympic derivatives), lighter for speed-strength/ballistic work (~30-60% peak-power loads). See speed-strength-vs-strength-speed.
