How to do the Machine Shrug
Setup
Positioned in the machine per its setup, gripping the handles with arms straight, shoulders relaxed down to start.
Elevate your shoulders straight up along the machine's fixed path, squeezing at the top.
Keep the movement purely vertical, same as the free-weight versions -- the machine's path already prevents rolling, but don't fight it by leaning or twisting.
Lower under control back to a full stretch.
Common mistakes
Using your legs/hips to help drive the weight up instead of isolating the movement at the shoulders.
Cutting the range short instead of using the machine's full available stretch-to-contraction path.
