Bent-over row emphasizing the posterior deltoid via horizontal abduction (a pronated-grip pull).
Bent over rows are listed with the posterior deltoids as the primary muscle. The posterior deltoid performs horizontal abduction, backward extension, and external rotation; its key training movement is horizontal abduction (extension), and bent-over rows (pronated grip) are an example exercise for it. The posterior deltoid is the most under-emphasized of the three deltoid heads and its movements are rarely done properly. Bent-over rows are also listed as a trapezius (T) back exercise (T-Bar, Incline Row). The "contracted" deltoid Positions-of-Flexion entry is bent-arm bent-over laterals.
